Struggle between two military personnel and policeman leads to death of bystander
A struggle between a police officer and two men believed to be military personnel has led to the death of an innocent man this afternoon at the Central Market area of Kumasi.
The deceased a young man believed to be in
his late twenties received a shot to the chest from the gun of the police man
in the ensuing struggle. Eye witnesses tell Kapital News, there was a scuffle
between the two men who have now told police they are military men, and a
driver.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the men
punched the driver in the face drawing blood. The scene attracted the attention
of the police man, Lance Corporal Eric Amoako who was on guard duties at the
Central branch of Uni-bank in Kumasi, who tried to effect the arrest of the man
who threw the punch.
The two gentlemen according to eyewitnesses
joined forces and grabbed the police man preventing him from carrying on with
the arrest. In the ensuing struggle Lance Corporal Amoako’s rifle went off
killing the fire technician who had come to the First National Bank to work,
killing him instantly.
Meanwhile the Regional Police Command has
confirmed the incident and says, the two men who struggled with the policeman
have identified themselves as military personnel. Corporal Godwin Ahianyo with
the Police Public Relations Outfit tells Kapital News they are in the custody
of the police assisting in investigations.
