Minority Leader Explains Boycott Allegations
Minority
leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has denied speculations that they
planned to boycott parliament in the view of non-adjustment of their salaries
and conditions of service.
Kyei Mensah Bonsu also lament members of parliament for the last three years have not been on regular salary.
Speaking to Kapital news, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu says although some Members of Parliament have expressed concern about their salary levels, they have not considered staging a boycotting of proceedings during Thursday’s state of the nations address.
There were reports president John Mills will seek to engage leadership of both Majority and Minority members of parliament in a closed door meeting too cool tempers of the law makers.
President Mills according to highly placed sources will also discuss new conditions of service for members of Ghana’s legislature.
President Mills is said to have received recommendations from the Prof. Ewurama Addy Committee set up to review conditions of service for Article 71 office holders.
But
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu who is also Member of Parliament for Suame discloses
that the MPs are also not happy president Mills has failed to fulfill some
promises he made to parliament in his previous state of the nation’s address.
Mensah Bonsu mentions provision of offices and research assistance as some unfulfilled promises by the president.
Meanwhile Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu explains some members of parliament are not happy the way his counterpart on the majority side of the house handled the matter at the presidency.
He
explains, the Majority leader Cletus Avoka betrayed confidence of the law
makers by going public with confidential information.
